Keeping the Promise: A Heartwarming Return to Devarabisanahalli

They say time flies, but impact has a way of staying with you. Almost a year and a half ago, the EmerReady team visited the Government Higher Primary School in Devarabisanahalli for the first time. We left that day moved by the stories of Ms. Sangameshwari and Mrs. Prabha, and we made a promise: we wouldn’t just be a "one-time visit." We wanted to be a long-term partner in their safety.
This week, we headed back to those same familiar halls for an EmerReady Booster Session, and honestly, the energy was even more electric than I remembered.
Strengthening the Foundation
Knowledge, like any skill, needs sharpening. While the smart boards were still ready and the students' enthusiasm hadn't dimmed, a year and a half is a long time in the life of a growing child. Our "Booster Session" was designed to refresh their memory on the life-saving basics we taught them before.
We dove back into our prepared materials: covering cuts, burns, fainting, and stroke. It was incredibly heartening to see some of the older students nodding along, remembering bits from our previous visit. It reminded me why we do this: safety isn't a lesson you learn once; it’s a culture you build.
Scaling the Impact
We didn't just come back to talk; we came back to equip. I’m so proud to share that we reached a significant new milestone during this return visit:
85 More Students Impacted: We trained a fresh batch of young responders, bringing our total reach at this school to new heights.
85 New First-Aid Kits: Once again, thanks to the support of the Adarsh Charitable Trust, we distributed 85 of our ₹200 kits. Seeing those kits in the hands of 85 more children felt like another huge milestone for our team.
School Kit Replenishment: Remembering Ms. Sangameshwari’s story about having to ask hospitals for leftover gauze, we made sure the school’s central medical station was fully restocked with digital thermometers, oximeters, and antiseptic creams.
The "Thank You" Beat
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the "Thank You" beat. Hearing that rhythmic clapping again, the signature of the Devarabisanahalli students, brought back a flood of memories from 2024. Whether they were shouting "Tumba chennagide" or "Very beautiful," that gesture makes every bit of hard work worth it.
Seeing 85 more kids holding their kits high, ready to be the first responders in their homes and neighborhoods, is a feeling I can't quite put into words. It’s why EmerReady exists.
Are you with us?
We’ve proven that we go back. We’ve proven that we follow through. But there are so many more schools waiting for us.
Think about this: A small pizza and a Pepsi costs about ₹600. For that same amount, 3 kids can be educated and empowered with an Emergency Preparedness Kit. It’s a small price for a life-saving skill.
Hoping you enjoyed this update. We're on a roll, and we'd love for you to join us on this journey!
Many thanks, Prachetas and the EmerReady Team
